E-Commerce Procurement

Goal:
To develop an e-commerce system to collect data from over more than 1,500 customers for a major business services company.

Project Description:
The original plan was to contract with a web development company to create an e-commerce system to collect weekly business data from their 1,500 customers. No contingency plan existed if the vendor defaulted or could not deliver on the contract. By conducting an open procurement for vendors we found 3 highly competent vendors that were familiar with the project and could be brought in if the primary vendor could not deliver.

Results:
Reduce the risk exposure by 67% on a $500,000 e-commerce project by providing several backup contingencies.
